Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
