Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his position after another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received significant backing from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
