England to Launch Euro 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium
The English squad will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they secure the relatively straightforward qualification for a competition hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.
City’s stadium has not hosted an England men’s fixture since May 2016, when the visitors were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to host the England side for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top their group, their round of 16 match would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Competition Opening and Rally
The championship was unveiled at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were barracked as they arrived the venue by around fifty activists, who demanded the Israeli team to be kicked out from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.
Placards were displayed with messages saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators called out: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Timeline
The inaugural fixture of the tournament will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will include Wales if they qualify.
Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the title decider, which will be held on a Sunday in July 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.
It is hoped that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to households and help reach a more diverse set of viewers.
Participating Countries
The Ireland are set to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at Hampden Park.
The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the qualification process; two reserved places will be set aside for any that do not reach the tournament through the qualification path.
Locations and Knockout Stage
Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight held at each country’s national stadium.
The qualification draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a venue city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.
Tournament Vision
“This will be a tournament for the supporters and a festival of everything we love about the game – its passion and capacity to unite individuals.”
More than three million tickets, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are projected to be made available to attendees.
