Former Doctor Accused of Assault Allegations Involving 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have announced that a ex- doctor stands accused of committing assaults involving thirty-eight victims who were patients.
The Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.
One deputy chief CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
The Investigation
These allegations come after what police called a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
