"Observe all this effort. See this ethnic cleansing," a fighter cheers.

The fighter smiles as he directs the video equipment on his person and his companion militiamen, their RSF insignia clearly shown: "The victims shall all die like this."

These individuals are exulting in a mass killing that aid workers suspect claimed the lives of over 2,000 people in the African city of the Darfur city in recent weeks.

An Urban Center Cut Off from the Globe

Following their control of the city under siege for nearly two years, from August the militia moved to strengthen its control and blockade the surviving civilian population.

Satellite images reveal that troops began to build a immense sand wall - a elevated earthen wall - encircling the boundaries of al-Fashir, sealing off access routes and halting aid.

As the siege intensified, 78 civilians were killed in an paramilitary attack on a mosque on September 19th, while the UN said fifty-three more were murdered in aerial and artillery attacks on a refugee settlement in October.

Explicit Video Shows Unarmed Individuals Executed

In the early morning on 26 October the RSF conquered the final government strongholds and took control of the main compound in the urban area, the command center of the Army Division, as the military withdrew.

Among the most horrific footage to surface and studied depicted the results of a mass killing at a campus structure on the west of the city, where numerous dead bodies were seen strewn over the ground.

Space-based imagery recorded on 26 October seemed to substantiate that killings were also performed on the streets of the city, as reported by a report issued by the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab.

An eyewitness who communicated stated he had seen "multiple of our kin being massacred - they were assembled in a single location and everyone murdered."

Militia Commanders Try to Conduct Damage Control

During the period that followed the massacre, RSF commander admitted that his forces had perpetrated "atrocities" and announced the occurrences would be examined.

Included among apprehended was after a report recording his killings. Meticulously orchestrated and edited footage posted on the RSF's official messaging account show the commander being taken into a detention area at a detention facility on the outskirts of el-Fasher.

Simultaneously, the RSF and affiliated social media profiles commenced seeking to reshape the account.

Updates depicting its militiamen providing supplies to residents were disseminated by some users, while the force's communications team released multiple recordings purporting to show the compassionate treatment of military captives.

Regardless of the social media campaign being used by the paramilitary, their actions in al-Fashir have provoked global condemnation.
