The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Famed for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.
Price was best known for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."
This news arrives shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.
He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her American tour after becoming Duchess.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

- Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
- Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
- Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.
The industry says farewell to a true visionary whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
