The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay
The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.
"This is a unique experience where a girl containing multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.
Entering a Shattered Consciousness
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four distinct souls, all possessing unique anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.
Based on revealed footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips show the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.
An Environment of Personal Horror
"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can activate something primal inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to each person."
The central mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the protagonist one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.
Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice
At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have large flowers where their heads are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body belongs to them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."
Once players believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.
"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The last one standing might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."
UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
