The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
